It’s been slow going for gaming lately. Although my backlog of games is huge, I haven’t been much in the mood to play much of anything. However I did get around to playing a game I’ve heard nothing but good things about and a random game I bought on a whim.
Hades

I bought Hades when it first came to the Epic Game Store in Early Access. I don’t remember where I heard about it initially but I have always been a sucker for Greek Mythology. Even though I bought it probably over a year ago I never actually got around to playing it. Fast forward to just a few weeks ago when it was officially released out of Early Access. Again I heard nothing but good things about it. I would see the headlines praising the game and a lot of the people in my Destiny clan could not stop gushing about it. Still, with all that hype I held off on playing it until last week. I booted it up thinking it would be “meh”. Boy was I wrong! It took me maybe thirty minutes to really figure out what I was supposed to be doing. To be clear I have yet to clear the game even once. The journey of playing Hades has been more than enough this far. At its core Hades is a hack n’ slash game. You unlock more weapons over time. Hades is also a rogue-like. When you die (which you will certainly do often) all the power ups you have gained in your run are gone. The great part that keeps you playing is that dying is part of the fun. You get the hang of each enemy and boss. You also gain currency that you can use for permanent upgrades. You can do slightly more damage to enemies. So even though you will die often it rarely feels like a complete loss. The Greek Gods will show up randomly in your runs with gifts for you. The gifts are just powerups that will help you in your run. Really there is so much to this game that I can’t properly write up. The dialog is always different and really entertaining. When you die the game will make it a point to call you our where and how you died. Even though I have maybe 4-5 hours in the game I would recommend the game to just about anyone. Hades is on the Epic Game Store, Steam and Nintendo Switch. I will definitely buy this game again whenever it gets a physical release on any console.
Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale

I don’t know much about Krumit’s Tale. I bought it randomly during the Steam Tabletop sale. The last few months I realized I am really into deck based games. I don’t really know where that comes from to be honest. These type of games just seem to simple and chill to play. There is some strategy and thinking that goes into them but they aren’t crazy over the top brain heavy. I played maybe an hour or two of Krumit’s Tale so far. It’s another “roguelike” game from my understanding. Once you die you start all over from scratch. The game is played on a 3 x3 grid. The board is filled with weapons and armor as well as enemies. Each piece or armor and weapon have durability. So once it breaks you need to buy a new one with gold. You can earn gold from killing enemies or you can sell off something on the grid that you don’t want. Say you don’t need a piece of armor you can see it and use that gold to buy a sword. Your character does have a base attack. Buying a weapon or power up just adds to your basic attack. I have only cleared the first board a few times and kept dying on the second board. From the little while that I have played it I have really enjoyed it. Krumit’s Tale is definitely a game I will try and invest more time into over the next few weeks.
