Out of the Loop

Earlier this week I was listening to my friend ShakeofMilk’s podcast and he was talking about his games backlog. He mentioned how he made a list of his current backlog as well as the games he’s beat this year. I started to think about the games I played/beat this year and I drew a complete blank. After thinking long and hard I gave up. I decided to look up a list of all the games released this year to see what I’ve missed.

As a toddler if you would have asked me if I’d ever NOT be gaming the answer would be a definite, “NO!” These past few years it’s been a definite “YES”. Finding the time and energy to play a new game nowadays feels impossible. I’ve slowly started to fade away from the scene in general. I don’t keep up with gaming news anymore. I don’t consume any gaming content on Youtube and I only go on Twitch to watch two friends. I can definitely say I’m more of a mobile gamer now. The sad thing is there are tons of games I’d love to play. The new Spider Man game seems fun and I have no idea what it’s about. But the point of this is not doom and gloom.

I’m going to start making more time for gaming in the next couple of months. First game on the list is going to be Super Mario RPG. I’ve wanted to play that game since I saw it released as a kid. The remake coming out is a great launching point. I felt bummed out that gaming wasn’t “my thing” anymore. Thinking about it, gaming was my passion for a very long time. I don’t think it’s fair to say I’ve grown out of it. Finding the time and being in the right mood seem to play more significant factors now. I’m always ready to play Stardew Valley. I just need to be ready for something else.
